Alpha Chi hosts the 2017 Achievement Week Founder’s Day Banquet

On Saturday, November 11, 2017 the Alpha Chi Chapter held our annual Achievement Week/Founder’s Day Banquet honoring the Founders and Founding of our beloved Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. The event was held at the Lake Etta Banquet Hall in Gary, Indiana.
Brother Alex Carter served as the facilitator of the event. The event featured a narrative regarding the history of the Founding of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity by Brother Carter. The event also featured the reading of an essay by Langston Stalling who is a current student at the Thea Bowman Charter School in Gary, Indiana. Langston was presented with a plaque and a monetary donation from Alpha Chi for his participation in the Essay Contest.
Brother Victor Thornton made a presentation and scholarship donation to the Gary Educational Development Foundation on behalf of the Alpha Chi Chapter. Alpha Chi donates scholarships to the GEDF on a yearly basis. There are brothers of Alpha Chi who have established their own personal scholarships to GEDF. The scholarships are used to help students of the Gary Community School Corporation attend the colleges of their choice.
After dinner was served, awards were presented to various brothers of the Alpha Chi Chapter. The awards included the Edgar A. Harris Superior Service Award, the Founders Award, and the Omega Man of the Year Award. Brother Monroe Parrot was awarded the Omega Man of the Year Award. Brother Monroe was initiated into Omega through Zeta Epsilon on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana in 1973. Brother Monroe is an active member of Alpha Chi Chapter in Gary, Indiana.
The keynote speaker for the event was Brother Richard Ligon. Brother Ligon is a retired Colonel of the United States Army who has over 35 years of military service to this country. Brother Ligon is the current Post Commander for the American Legion Post 270 located in Gary, Indiana and was initiated into Omega through the Alpha Chi Chapter in Gary, Indiana.
The Founder’s Day Banquet included the swearing in of the 2017 – 2018 Alpha Chi Chapter Officers by Brother Lloyd Fisher. Brother Nathaniel Shaw Alpha Chi Chapter Basileus gave closing remarks. Brother Jeffrey Roche provided the entertainment for the event.
